Aktobe Educational Advising Center is willing to host an EducationUSA Intern in our the city of Aktobe during the summer school break (mid-June to mid-August) to work within the Annual TOEFL Summer School (TSS) for high school students who are willing to apply to US colleges and universities after they complete high school. Every year the TSS hosts about 50 carefully selected young leaders who intend to study abroad. Having a native English speaker, preferably an American, is an integral part of the TSS because the campers need to have the first-hand knowledge and communication with someone who has gone through an American system of higher education. In the previous years we had Peace Corps Volunteers to serve this role.

An intern is expected to become part a team of educational advisors who will train students about applying to a US university, including:

  • finding the right universities in the US
  • finding financial aid opportunities in US universities
  • communicating with university admissions offices
  • preparing a successful application form (statement of purpose, reference letters, etc.)
  • preparing for standardized tests
  • getting to know about the daily life of students in the US
  • getting to know American culture and values

Besides attending classes, campers will regularly be having extracurricular activities (sports games, picnics, treasure hunt, etc.). An intern is expected to plan and actively engage in extracurricular activities together with the students.

More about the TSS: http://akeac.org/web/?page_id=1407&lang=en

An intern is expected to arrive in mid-June to have 2 full weeks to adjust and prepare for the TSS.

Please feel free to contact with us if you have any questions regarding to our staff or job.

Other comments:

Travel restrictions do not allow us to host a US student at our Center physically but we would love the opportunity to have a virtual assistant. Perhaps more than anywhere else in the world it is important for Pakistani students to liaise with students in the US. It is a wonderful opportunity for the students to get to know more about fellow students abroad and about education systems in their respective countries. A virtual assistant will be like a helping hand lifting potential US bound students from the mists of confusion, which surrounds them, when they think about study in the US. This peer interaction is comforting and informative and most welcome!
