Program Highlights

Local Perth High School Career Fairs and lunch time visits

The office attends many Perth metropolitan high school career fairs during the year which local Australian universities also attend. Students can get information about US higher education and collect general handout material on testing/admissions targeting grades 10-12. A continuous slide show plays on our computer monitor showing USA campuses, university life, housing options, activities etc.
Lunch time school visit are becoming very popular this year as students often find it difficult to attend our office open day on Friday. These are arranged through the school careers guidance office.

College Fairs

Unfortunately these only occur every 3 years as university reps seldom think to visit Perth and the west coast of Australia. But they have always been well attended and are an important opportunity for our students to see and speak directly with US University Admission staff. Many US universities only target the east coast of Australia and visit Sydney and/or Melbourne and seldom think to travel to Perth, a 4.5 hour flight away on the west coast of Australia. Our office actively participates to make the most of these opportunities for our local population and can help guide fair teams with local preparations. Over 125 people came to an evening presentation during the last fair in May 2010 with school visits during the day. It was very successful.

Pre-Departure

Tailored in-office pre-departure sessions for full degree seeking students, usually at undergraduate level, are conducted by appointment on a one-to-one basis with students and their families.
The office regularly participation in 2 local university pre-departure sessions targeting students going to US on exchange programs. Usually conducted in May/June and October each year as requested by the universities.

Individual Advising

All visitors to the office receive individual one-to-one advising which meets their specific requirements. We provide the only service of this kind in the state. Other advising days besides Friday can be arranged upon requested to meet student needs.
