Have you ever been to the Exhibit Hall at National NAFSA conferences and were perhaps a
bit surprised to see that the Germans, Australians, Chinese, British, Brazilians, Spanish, and a host of other countries had massive sections of the hall devoted to their countries and their higher education institutions?
Have you ever tried to arrange a place to have meetings with current or prospective exchange partner institutions abroad at NAFSA, having to settle at the last minute to meet under letter "C" on the message boards among the throngs of other lost souls looking for the same thing?
Is the country fair just too short of a time to meet our EducationUSA staff, REACs, and advisers?
Is your institution part of a state or regional consortia for international education (like Study Washington, Destination Indiana, or One Big Campus (in the Philadelphia area) that would like to have a space in the exhibit hall without paying the fees that are required for a 10x10 booth?

President Obama announced plans last month to "dramatically expand" to 100,000 the number of U.S. students who study in China over the next four years, calling such exchanges "a clear commitment to build ties among our people in the steady pursuit of cooperation that will serve our nations, and the world." But Sun, who grew up in China's Jiangxi province, is part of a surge already taking place in the other direction. Last year alone, 98,510 Chinese graduate and undergraduate students poured into U.S. colleges and universities, lured by China's emphasis on academic achievement and the prestige of U.S. higher education.

In the weeks leading up to International Education Week 2009, Embassy Oslo became an official EducationUSA Center. For the actual International Education Week, the Public Affairs Section (PAS) invited Rosie Edmond, Assistant Director of the International Legal Studies Program at the Washington College of Law at American University in Washington DC, to Norway to participate in a week-long series of seminars and events about studying in the U.S. Among other things, PAS organized two very successful Masters of Law seminars in Oslo and Bergen, giving more than 100 Norwegian law students and practitioners information about LL.M. opportunities in the States, as well as practical “how to” knowledge about the application process. In addition to having Ms. Edmond give a thorough presentation on LL.M. studies, PAS also invited an LL.M. alum, representatives from the Fulbright Foundation, the Norway-America Association, the Norwegian Standardized Test Center and the Norwegian State Educational Loan Fund so that the participants would receive sufficient information about all aspects of earning an LL.M. degree in the U.S.
