Center Description: The American Embassy provides intensive educational advising services to prospective students. In the last year, over 8000 prospective students have come to the Embassy to explore ways to study in the US. The EducationUSA Dakar helps students find colleges and universities, provides information on various entrance examinations, admission requirements and financial planning. Besides the one-on-one information sessions, the EducationUSA Dakar organizes monthly orientation sessions; participates in career fairs and school cultural activities. We also maintain a small library of books on American education in the American Information Center’s library where advisees have free access to internet for college/University search. All services are free.

Program Highlights“Promoting the Education USA service at the Dakar International Fair, November 2009” With support from US Embassy Dakar, the EducationUSA Service participated in a week long international fair in Dakar which is held every two years. Senegalese educational institutes ranging from school officers, academic counselors and students from high schools, state and private universities and business institutes all participate. About 1500 hand-outs were distributed. “The differences between the American and Senegalese education systems” PAS Dakar and the West African Research Center (WARC) co-organized a lecture that highlighted differences between the American and Senegalese education systems. The three-hour session generated heated discussion about the reforms needed in the Senegalese system.
