Program Highlights

CIS Education Fair in Tashkent

In April 2009, the Council For International Schools (CIS) held an education fair at the Tashkent International School. 18 representatives of US and European universities participated in the fair and provided information to students, teachers, and community members in Taskhent. The event was held in cooperation with the EducationUSA advising center at the US Embassy.

Virtual Conference with Seattle Central Community College (SCCC)

In April 2008, the EducationUSA advising center in Tashkent organized a digital video conference (DVC) with Seattle Central Community College to celebrate the 35th anniversary of the Seattle-Tashkent Sister City Relationship. The DVC connected SCCC representatives Andrea Insley and Johan François and the President of the Seattle-Tashkent Sister City Association Dan Peterson with more than 45 students, teachers and community members from Tashkent. This event provided Uzbek students with an opportunity to learn about the admission process to community colleges.

Workshop on Statement of Purpose Writing

Students Pack Auditorium for International Education Fair

Hundreds of students filled an auditorium and an adjacent gymnasium at Tashkent International School on Nov. 18 to learn about opportunities to study in the U.S. and other countries.

Representatives of 14 international education organizations presented their programs at the 3rd Annual International Education Fair. At least 800 students jammed shoulder-to-shoulder into the auditorium to speak with the representatives about exchange programs, fellowships, the admissions and financial aid process at colleges and universities, testing centers and other resources available to facilitate international education.

The Educational Advising Center (EAC) of the Public Affairs Section at the U.S. Embassy organized the annual event with support from Tashkent International School.

U.S. Ambassador Richard Norland welcomed the students to the fair, and the organizers held drawings for prizes such as English textbooks and test preparation materials.

The number of students from Uzbekistan studying in institutions of higher education in the U.S. increased by 28 percent in the 2008/2009 academic year, according to the Institute of International Education (IIE). That increase, from 539 to 688 students, was the greatest among the nations of Central Asia.
