Program Highlights

Virtual Advising

The German-American Institute in Tuebingen and the Amerika Haus Munich hosted their first e-outreach and advising seminar. The interactive advising session provided information about undergraduate, graduate as well as U.S. Ph.D. programs.

EdUSA Connects session & live presentation "Jobs and Internships in the USA"

Together with employees of the Consular Section of the U.S. Consulate Munich, we presented the formal options open to students and young professionals to job and work in the U.S. Emphasis was laid on the Work & Travel, Internship and Traineeship visa catagories/programs. In addition, we gave tips on how to look for a job, how to write an American-style resume and cover letter, and how to apply for a visa.

Those who were not able to come to our live presentation at the Amerika House were able to watch and listen to it online through Adobe Connects. Approximately 35 guests logged into the the EdUSA Adobe Connects session, and the presentation room at the Amerika House was overfilled with approximately 60-70 people. We were therefore able to successfully reach over 100 students and young professionals with this 1 1/2 hour presentation.

"Jobs and Internships in the USA" is planned to be held again in May 2012.

He received several scholarships including the Atlantis Program, TUMExchange, Fulbright, the Max Weber-Program, as well as the Heinrich und Lotte Mühlfenzl Stiftung. For an exchange year in the US, he studied at the Georgia Institute of Technology and has quite a bit to say about it: "Academically, Georgia Tech was a challenge in several ways. This was best expressed in a saying about studying at Georgia Tech that I found in the 'Technique', the official college newspaper: 'Sleep, social life, good grades – choose two'. I chose to drop sleep." More about Julian Straub's experience at the event...

Franziska Rühl, ETS Global:
ETS is the organisation that operates the standardized tests TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) and GRE (Graduate Record Examinations). While TOEFL is a language test international students need to take when applying for most any university/college program, the GRE is an academic test which is a standard part of applications for a Master or Ph.D. studies program in the USA. Frau Rühl will present further details about both tests.
