Program Highlights

EducationUSA outreach to secondary schools and universities

EducationUSA Advising Center Abuja conducted a one week outreach to four northern states and visited 18 secondary schools and universities. For this outreach, an EducationUSA Advisor and a U.S. Embassy intern, graduate of University Colorado at Boulder spoke to a total of 1,500 students, faculty and staff on opportunities for study in the U.S., the admission process, scholarship and other educational exchange programs funded by the Department of State bureau for Education and Cultural Affairs.
The trip was an excellent opportunity to reach out to educators and students, particularly those individuals in rural areas of Nigeria that are less accessible to the U.S. Embassy on a regular basis. Students and staff of the institutions visited were very receptive and excited at the information.

2010 fall predeparture orientation

EducationUSA Advising Center organized a pre-departure orientation for about 70 successful undergraduate and graduate students on July 14, 2010.
For fall 2010, 121 students registered as members of the center; 74 of which received admission for undergraduate and graduate studies at various universities in the U.S. Further, 60 of these students received a combined total of over $2 million in scholarship and financial aid offers from about 80 institutions in the U.S. for academic year 2010/2011. Some of these students received multiple funding from institutions like Stanford University, Amherst, California Institute of Technology and Mount Holyoke to name a few.
