Program Highlights

“I want to study in the USA!”

On November 24, 2009, more than 120 high school students from various cities of Poland gathered at the Koszykowa Library in Warsaw to learn about college life in the United States and find out how to apply to U.S. colleges, choose the right school, and research scholarship and financial aid opportunities. The U.S. Embassy-sponsored program featured presentations on the application process including deadlines, financial resources, student visas, and exams. The speakers were American diplomats, Fulbright students, educational advisers and Student Counselors from the American School of Warsaw. Students could learn the differences between Polish and U.S. professors’ approach to teaching, the courses of study, choosing and changing majors, student life, and working on campus. After a pizza break, they were divided into smaller groups to communicate via the Internet with representatives from admissions offices at twelve U.S. colleges and universities.

International Education Week 2010 -Yes to US! - Students Guide to Undergraduate Study in the US

During the International Education Week the US embassy and US Consulate organized seminars for high school students on How to Study in the US. On November 15, 17 and 23 over 500 students from Gdansk, Warsaw, and Krakow regions, came to thre venues to participate in practical sessions that would help them go through the process of choosing the best college for them, how to find resources to cover tuition fees and other expenses, as well as prepare a successful application. The main goal of the seminar was to reach out to prospective students of IB schools and other good schools with extended English language programs, whose students speak excellent English and consider studying in the US. The program of each seminar also included a panel with young American Fulbright scholars and Polish students who returned to Poland, who shared their experiences and advised on how to prepare themselves and what to expect. The program also included presentations on standardized tests, students’ visas and other related topics. The speakers were American diplomats, Fulbright students, educational advisers. The highlight of the seminar was a Skype connection with representatives of American universities of undergraduate admissions offices. The participants were divided into smaller groups and for 1 hour had a chance to talk to them and ask very direct and specific questions regarding funding possibilities, standardized tests, campus life, and more.
