Program HighlightsHigh School Students Learn About Educational Exchange Opportunities On March 19, 2009, the Petro Nini Luarasi high school library was overflowing with students highly interested to learn about the nuts and bolts of educational programs offered through the Embassy, including the all-important step of obtaining a visa. Assistant Public Affairs Officer Leigh Rieder, Educational Advisor Linda Mëniku, and Vice Consul Stephanie Boscaino informed the students on the Embassy work to reach out to youth through various programs like Speaker’s Bureau, meet America, Read with America, and EducationUSA. During the Q&A session the focus was heavy on issues related to financial assistance, visa procedures, and field of study. Sixty Faculty Members Meet with Georgia Southern University On February 27, 2009 EducationUSA Advisor Linda Mëniku and Prof. Lori Amy, Director of the Women’s and Gender Studies Program at Georgia Southern University, met with approximately 60 faculty members of University of Durres ‘Aleksander Moisiu’ to discuss educational exchange opportunities. With support from Rector Agim Kukeli, Ms. Mëniku and Prof. Amy presented information on the Fulbright, Humphrey, and Junior Faculty Development Programs, as well as graduate degree study. The day of outreach also included a presentation to students at High School Naim Frasheri on the YES Program for high school students and undergraduate study in the U.S. Regional Educational Advising Coordinator Visits Tirana for International Education Week Regional Educational Advising Coordinator for Europe Wesley Teter visited Tirana November 20-21st to celebrate International Education Week 2008. Successful meetings with national and local government officials and university professors focused on common interests to promote EducationUSA and enhance cooperation between American and Albanian universities. Approximately 130 university and high school students attended Teter’s presentation on how to apply to study in the U.S., including how to research funding opportunities. Teter also emphasized the importance of matching students’ skills and interests with their university of choice. Newspapers Republica and Sot will carry articles on Teter’s visit and presentations.
