Program Highlights

Competitive College Club

Recently, the EducationUSA advising center in Kabul formed a student group which principally focuses on admission applications and standardized tests. The advising center invited about 60 students to join the club, but the club ended up with 18 committed students. The goal ultimately is to provide assistance to those who are interested in pursuing their college education in the United States. This initiative gives a remarkable opportunity to prepare the students for higher education in the United States. To encourage students and offer them even more of an incentive to pursue their academic goals, the U.S. Embassy in Kabul paid for the TOEFL test fees for the club participants. The EducationUSA adviser in Kabul meets with the club members on a regular basis to monitor their progress and challenges.

Using Webchat to Reach Students

EducationUSA Advising Center at the Embassy conducted its first web chat on January 29 on “Studying in the U.S.” The goal of this program was to assist Afghan students who wish to apply to U.S. universities by answering their questions about the application process and financial assistance for students. 80 participants from various provinces took part in the web chat, and over 150 questions were asked and answered in a 2-hour session.
One of the participants expressed his thanks “for this great initiative,” and noted “I hope this program will enable Afghans to acquire their higher education in the United States”. Kabul EducationUSA Advising Center plans more web chats on “Studying in the U.S.” to meet the high demand Afghans have for information on this topic.
