U.S. Based University Recruiters Visit the West Bank and Meet with Palestinian Students

On March 28, 2012 representatives from six U.S. universities and colleges visited the city of Ramallah and met with students and parents from Ramallah and Jerusalem area schools. Representatives presented on study opportunities in the U.S. and also provided information on undergraduate and graduate study at their respective schools. At the conclusion of the presentations, students and their parents were allowed the opportunity to meet directly with the school representatives at their respective tables. U.S. Consulate General representatives, including representatives from the Consular Section presented on their scholarship programs and the visa application process respectively. Raefael Patino, Deputy Senior Commercial Officer from the U.S. Embassy in Tel Aviv welcomed the audience and the U.S. representatives. This event was organized in coordination with the U.S. Commercial Service at the U.S. Embassy in Tel Aviv.

On April 29, 2012, the EducationUSA Information Center will host undergraduate admissions representative from University of Chicago, University of Pennsylvania and Yale University. The representatives will present at the Frere College for Boys and Girls, in Jerusalem and the Friends Boys School in Ramallah. Such activities are strongly welcomed by Palestinian students who appreciate learning first hand from school representatives and engaging directly with them.

Joint EducationUSA Information Center and U.S. Consulate Workshop for Palestinian Ministry of Education.

In December 2011, the EducationUSA Information Center and U.S. Consulate General, Jerusalem, held a workshop for Palestinian Ministry of Education counselors and administrators from the West Bank and East Jerusalem. This is the first ever workshop organized for Ministry of Education staff representing sixteen West Bank districts. The workshop helped build awareness on the U.S. higher education system, undergraduate study and the application process, U.S. government sponsored and AMIDEAST administered scholarship programs and the visa application process. The workshop also met our goal of establishing liaison network at the Ministry of Education for future outreach activities to public schools at the district level.
