Africa West and Central is one of the economically poorest, yet most dynamic regions in the world. Five countries (Benin, Burkina Faso, Congo Brazzaville, Cote D'Ivoire, and Gabon) recorded record high enrollments of students in the United States last year, and the region as a whole has recorded increases in each of the past thirteen years, to 16,936 in 2009-10. Out of 25 countries in the region, we have advising centers in 21, covering 99% of the population, and we expect to extend advising services to Equatorial Guinea and Gabon in 2011, as well as South Sudan. West and Central African cultures enjoy strong ties with the United States and students prefer the U.S. to any other country for their higher education. For guidance on each country's educational systems and credentials, contact the advisors or REAC for current and accurate information.
